Xtropolis 2010 >> Online

12 February 2010

today, 12 February 2010 my new site is going online. It’s a dynamic website, style sheets, database and all the other stuff. No flash things to display the pictures. What has been funny when launching the old website became soon annoying. What bothered me also was that the flash contents could not be displayed on the iPhone, I had to go via the Fotocommunity or the Model-Kartei.

Apart from that, it seems that there are still some people who haven’t installed Flash yet and also some others who did not want to wait for the animation before a picture was shown. After some time, even I thought that my website was boring.   As I already mentioned, a typical one-way road, no possibilities for exchange between fans and angry critics. No possibility for mashing, no possibility to connect to social networks and ‘to be reached’ is essential in today’s modern web age. Anyway, you can’t please everyone and so, back then the question was about the ideal screen definition of the site or browser optimizations, but today it is first of all about the available features.

The most important part on Xtropolis is still its pictures. I think it’s great and there was a whole lot of work to do. Maybe you do like it as well? If so, please tell me, if not, tell me anyway. Cheers! :)

Pictures for your ears

music which I was listening to, over and over in 2009 and not only whilst I was retouching photos:

It’s up to everyone to decide if pictures or photos can create a better world. It is said that music could definetely do this.

Talking about Best Of music videos: I’m afraid Youtube has once again deleted the filmtrailer in which “Burning House” by “Rabia Sorda” was being played in the background. Maybe somebody knows the title of that film or where this videoclip is to be found?

Some of you possibly like to load several pictures up to MySpace or to your Facebook profile.

Social networks can nowadays more or less be seen as the galleries of the modern age. As Sudeep and me were experimenting a bit on the code of new website, there had to be a possibility to spread some photo news.

We spend some time to find out a solution. We turned off the Ajax stuff and you’ll now find a „share“ button above the photos. If you wish to share a picture on MySpace, Facebook, Twitter etc. Click on it and have fun :)

How long will it take…

Image Editing: The comment in the Xtropolis logo ‘Professional Passion in Photography’ has its own sense. The photography and shoots are my passion and hobby, but I earn my cents at work (my ‘real’ job). I also expect a certain standard from my own photographs. I can really understand that people can’t wait to pimp their MySpace / Facebook profile with brand new pictures and the waiting time for those postprocessed pictures may seem endless.

I’ll try to explain it that way: when talking about a TFP photo shoot, i.e. a photo shoot where the model does not have to pay anything, the model takes the time that is necessary for the shoot. However, it takes much longer to screen all taken images, choose some and to prepare them in order to be published. That is what I am doing while you (model) are partying. As taking photos is a hobby, I need my time to edit the pictures whenever I want and feel like doing it. The advantage: I keep my fantastic mood and together we can look forward to good results. Not caring about whether it may take some hours, days, weeks or the time that it takes.

I’m always very motivated to finish the pictures quite fast, but I do not want to do a sloppy job. This is what I also say before the shoot, even twice. If you can live with that, I am looking forward to receiving your shoot enquiry.

Blogging via cellphone

Yes! It works. Thank you, Apple.
Blogging isn’t twittering, at least not directly, although you can certainly handle it the way you want.

Ladies and Gentlemen, in order to be prepared for any odd moments, this precise test-posting had to be done. I couldn’t forgive myself for not being able to spontaneously post a picture of Brat Pit and Mrs. Jolie strolling through the Mauerpark carrying a six-pack of Astra.

Photo shoot with Jo-Jo

24 January 2010

I usually only take pictures of people with a minimum age of 18 years, which means big boys and girls, or those who are 18 and who want to grow up soon. However, for the Xtropolis intro at the beginning there should be something special. I was inspired by the Cover of the latest ‘VAC‘ album and by Claudia from ‘Interview with a vamp’. The good connection to the manager of the model was very helpful and the idea could not be stopped anymore. Jay was right away very enthusiastic about the idea.

You will soon be able to see some pictures of the shoot on the photo page. The shoot was incredible fun plus the model brought a homemade cake.

It was also the first shoot where Amy McDonald, Pink! and Rihanna served as background music.

spending some time at Kulturbrauerei in Berlin with good friends, sometimes you can find yourself heading towards a great electropop concert by mistake. Here is the link to Kira and Andreas aka ‘Le Clap‘.

That’s the way to go, I believe in you!

Xtropolis Reloaded

18 December 2009

xtropolis.de needs to be redesigned! 12550 visitors since May/2006, okay it isn’t that much but, you know, it’s quality that matters, not quantity. I decided to begin a new era and start a complete redesign, based on wordpress. Static HTML websites are more and more outdatet and flash elements on a website are funny as long as you change these gimmicks frequently. Anyway. My priority is photography and I think wordpress won the race concerning web marketing. The setup should be easy, but… (to be continued)
